Teaching Philosophy

Children are naturally curious and want to make connections to the world around them. I strive to create an engaging and relevant learning experience where students are active participants in the learning process. My goal is to provide them with life-long learning skills, facilitate growth, and foster creative and critical thinking.

Grade 6 Highlights (English)

English Language: We complete several novel studies, including the fiction novel Wonder by R. J. Palacio, and a novella on reconciliation entitled Lucy and Lola, by Monique Gray Smith.

Math: We follow the new math curriculum and extend our learning into coding and financial literacy.

Science: We demonstrate an understanding of biodiversity by creating a large-scale “Tree of Life”, and we engage in the engineering design process when studying electricity.

Social Studies: We identify and describe Canada’s political, social, economic and environmental role in the global community. We investigate products Canada imports and exports. And, following discussions on fair trade and child labour around the world, we role play on banana farming.

Gym: We explore the fun and healthy fitness challenges presented to us during our Back to School Bootcamp.
