Teaching Philosophy

I am a creative individual, passionate about making connections. Although my education is highly arts-biased, I am constantly investigating how learning is naturally interdisciplinary. I encourage students to explore ways in which math and science, and art and language are inextricably linked.

Grade 6 Highlights (English)

English Language: We complete 3 novel studies, including the novel Wonder By R. J. Palacio, and we make connections to our school-wide character education program (Umbrella Project).

Math: We extend the math curriculum into our learning of art and architecture.

Science: We demonstrate an understanding of biodiversity, its contributions to the stability of natural systems, and its benefits to humans, by creating a large-scale “Tree of Life”.

Social Studies: We identify and describe Canada’s political, social, and physical links with areas of the world. We investigate products Canada imports and exports. Then, following discussions on fair trade and child labour around the world, we host a chocolate tasting event.

Gym: We explore the fun and healthy fitness challenges presented to us during our Back to School Bootcamp.

Grade 7 and 8 Highlights

Grade 7 Art: We create a collaborative quilt on social, political, and economic issues.

Grade 8 Art: We create enormous set designs for our year-end operetta.
