Public Speaking

The students from Grade 3 to Grade 8 are involved in the Effective Speaking Contest. The classroom preparation that takes place in early winter for our school-wide competition is impressive.

Students in Grade 3 memorize and deliver French and English poems.

In English, students in Grades 4, 6 and 8 write and deliver their own speeches on a variety of topics of their interest.

In French, students in Grade 4 have a choice of memorizing a poem or writing their own speech, while students in Grades 5 and 7 write and present a speech.

Classroom finalists are chosen to compete in the gymnasium in front of a school-wide audience and many proud parents. Winners are chosen by our esteemed panel of volunteer judges who present the winners with certificates and prizes. Our finalists go on and compete in the competitions organized by the Waterloo branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and by The Lion's Club.

Our students often place amongst the most effective speakers at both the regional and provincial levels.
