Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is observed each year on November 11 at 11:00 a.m. Students and staff honour war veterans and active-duty soldiers by participating in an assembly. Students read passages and poems, including "In Flanders Fields", and they lay a class wreath. Teachers instruct their classes about the meaning of Remembrance Day by using related reading materials and activities appropriate to the age level of their students. Students in Grades 1 through 8 have also participated in "Why We Remember Week" presented by our local Legion each October. This event teaches the students about Canadian involvement in war and peacekeeping missions. Students have the opportunity to speak to war veterans about their experiences and view displays of artifacts.
