School Day

Our school day starts at 8:50; however, students can be dropped off at school as early as 8 o’clock and the school provides early supervision at no extra cost. The official school day ends at 3:30 p.m. Students are supervised at outdoor recess until 4:00 without any additional fee.

Students may stay in the after school program from 4:00 to 6:00 for a fee. There is an opportunity to play outdoors or in the gym. Students are also welcome to work on their homework or to receive private tutoring with older students or teachers.

The school day is divided into 4 instructional periods of approximately 75 minutes each. In Kindergarten and grades 1 through 6, the academic program is offered in French for half of the day, and in English for the other half. The morning classes run from 8:50 to 11:45 with a 15-minute recess in the middle. Afternoon classes begin at 12:45 and run until 3:30 with another 15-minute recess.

Lunch is from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. All students remain at the school during the supervised lunch hour. Students have half an hour to eat their lunch and half an hour for active recess. All students bring their lunches, except for hot lunch days and pizza lunch days. These special lunches are offered for a certain period of time in the winter and spring terms. Some students and teachers take advantage of the services of "The Lunch Lady" one day a week throughout the year. Milk is provided at lunch for a nominal charge.

Younger students eat first and then go outside to play while the older students go outside first and have lunch afterwards. This gives everyone lots of room in the yard at recess.

Our Kindergarten students are encouraged to come for the full day for maximum educational benefit. However, we offer a flexible half-day or part-time kindergarten program to meet the needs of all our kindergarten children. These children still receive alternating French and English instruction, just like those who come for full days.

In all of our classrooms up to and including grade 3, an Educational Assistant works with the teacher to support student learning. In this way, each student can receive individual attention and progress at his or her own pace, while at the same time reaping the benefits of being in the larger group. Every effort is made to create a stimulating atmosphere in which learning is enjoyable.
